What chicory is
Chicory is the roasted, ground root of the chicory plant. It contains no caffeine and no coffee. Ground into filter coffee (commonly 10–30%), it adds body, a dark woody-sweet note, colour, and it stretches the coffee — historically a cost measure that became a taste people grew to love in South India.
Why skip it
- You want only coffee flavour and aroma.
- You are sensitive to chicory's laxative/inulin effect in quantity.
- You are brewing pour-over or espresso where chicory muddies the cup.
Best no-chicory coffees
Look for "100% coffee", "pure Arabica" or "no chicory" on the label.

Roasted or green
These are freshly roasted. Roasters blending their own chicory-free filter can start from Koraput green Arabica:

A pure-Arabica filter roast is also available to order from Gray Cup.
