The two species
| | Arabica | Robusta | |---|---|---| | Caffeine | ~1.2% | ~2.2% | | Taste | sweeter, acidic, aromatic | bitter, woody, grainy | | Body | lighter–medium | heavy | | Crema | thin, fades | thick, lasting | | Grows at | 900–1,800 m | 200–900 m |
What the ratio does to filter coffee
- 95/5, 90/10 — almost pure Arabica: aromatic, smooth, gentle. Best if you drink your kaapi lighter or with less milk.
- 80/20 — a touch more strength and crema, still Arabica-forward.
- 70/30 — the classic strong South Indian cup: bold, bitter-sweet, thick crema, more caffeine. Stands up to lots of hot milk and sugar.
More Robusta = more body, more caffeine, more bitterness, more crema, lower cost.

Roasted vs green
The blends above ship freshly roasted. Roasters mixing their own ratio can source the Koraput Arabica base green and add Robusta:

Gray Cup roasts 95/5 through 70/30 Arabica/Robusta filter blends to order from the same Koraput coffee.
