Why We Source From Koraput
Every farm below sits in or near Koraput district, a highland pocket of Odisha's Eastern Ghats bordering Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Commercial coffee here is young by Indian standards, with cultivation taking root in the 1990s under the Coffee Board of India's extension programmes, and several of our oldest partner estates date to that first wave, 1992–1995.
What makes it worth sourcing from is the land itself: laterite and red loam soils built up under Eastern Ghats forest canopy, farmed at elevations from roughly 800m up past 1,400m by tribal farming communities who kept the shade-grown system rather than clearing for sun cultivation. Cool nights and a slow ripening cycle at that altitude give the cherry more time to develop density and flavor before harvest, the same reason we document elevation and processing method for every lot on every farm profile below, rather than selling Koraput coffee as one undifferentiated origin.
