Coorg (Kodagu) is one of India's most famous coffee districts; Koraput, Odisha is one of its youngest. They make quite different cups.

Coorg

  • Western Ghats, ~750–1,100 m, high rainfall.
  • Big Robusta production alongside Arabica — India's Robusta heartland.
  • Estate-scale, shade-grown, often intercropped with pepper and cardamom.
  • Cup: heavy body, low acidity, chocolate, nuts, mellow. Robusta lots are strong and earthy.

Koraput

  • Eastern Ghats, ~900–1,200 m, mostly Arabica.
  • Smallholder, newer milling, more processing experimentation.
  • Cup: cleaner, medium body, cocoa and citrus (washed), dark fruit (natural).

Which should you try?

Want low-acid, full-bodied, milk-and-sugar-friendly coffee, or Robusta for a strong filter? Coorg. Want a cleaner, brighter, more single-origin-style Arabica? Koraput.
