Where caffeine comes from

Caffeine is the coffee plant's natural pesticide. Robusta (Coffea canephora) has about 2.2% caffeine by weight; Arabica about 1.2%. So the single biggest lever on a strong cup is the Arabica:Robusta ratio.

Roast level is a myth here — light and dark roasts have almost the same caffeine per gram. Dark roast tastes stronger; it isn't.

How to maximise the dose

  1. Robusta-forward blend (70/30 or more Robusta).
  2. Higher dose per cup — brew at 1:14 instead of 1:17.
  3. Big-volume method — filter or French press mug over a single espresso.
  4. Two moderate cups spaced out beats one huge one for sustained alertness.

Strong Indian coffees

Roasted or green

Roasters can build a high-caffeine filter blend from a Koraput Arabica base plus Robusta:

Gray Cup roasts 90/10 down to 70/30 Arabica/Robusta blends to order.

Don't overdo it

400 mg/day (~4 cups) is the general safe ceiling. More causes jitters, poor sleep and dependence without extra benefit.
